Weekend Recap- Wedding Edition

So the Robinson's MO these days is that we are always going to weddings or wedding related events and this weekend was full of them!

Friday night, we had a Stock the Bar shower for my long-time family friend, Ben, and his fiance, Emily. I unfortunately forgot to take some pictures. The party was at a house in Brookhaven. It was great to see Ben's parents and a few other friends of mine from college. Ben and Emily are getting married in October in Dahlonega! My whole family is going so needless to say I can't wait!!

After the shower, we hopped over to the St. Regis to grab a drink with our college friends who had just left the rehearsal dinner for our friends getting married on Saturday.

Saturday morning I had a bridal shower for my good friend from college, Lizzie. Lizzie is getting married in Hilton Head in three weeks! Colleen and Carly did a great job decorating and cooking for the shower. Lizzie got all kinds of great gifts and it was a nice, small shower getting to celebrate her and Nick.

Saturday night, we had a wedding for Tommy's old roommate (my high school prom date) and his fiance, Colin and Meghan. I was so excited about this wedding as they are some of our closest couple friends and we knew so many people that were going. It's funny how small the world really gets. The couple we had the shower for Friday night were there because Emily and Meghan work together. It was a great gathering at our favorite place (where we had our reception) Summerour Studios. Meghan did a beautiful job decorating the space. Bold American did a fantastic job with the food. They had a fried chicken station, pulled pork in a mason jar station, and a salmon station. Since our wedding, Summerour has taken over the upstairs that used to be an architectural firm. That is where the cocktail hour was held as well as in the courtyard. Would have been wonderful on our wedding day as it was POURING down rain and our cocktail hour ended up in the main room. Oh well! Here are some pictures from the night. Meghan was glowing and you could just feel the love in the room all night. Such a special time with our friends!

Sunday, we slept in (aren't you exhausted from reading about your weekend because I sure am!) and tried our brunch at Southbound. It was yummyyyy

After brunch,  I spent the afternoon running my grocery errands for the week. We popped over to the Willi household to see my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew since we didn't get to see them all weekend. Every time I see Collier I feel like he has changed so I try not to go more than a week without a visit over to them! After a quick visit, we headed to a Red Dot picnic (community groups with our church) in Sandy Springs (we usually go to the Brookhaven events) because the Sandy Springs Red Dot group is really making a huge effort to get involved at my school. My principal, his family, two other teachers, and their husbands all went to be able to promote our school and answer questions any community members had about our school. There was a great turnout and the weather held off! We had a great time and felt very loved that so many people are wanting to help our students.

Looking forward to a great week!
Happy Monday!

Collier's Baptism- July 12, 2015

Sometimes life can throw you for a loop and things don't go according to your plan. In these times the only thing that helps get you through it is knowing that he has a plan. Even though we may not understand the route in which his plan is taking us you have to have faith that it will all come together the way you thought. There are road blocks that come along to test your faith but those are the times you feel your faith getting stronger. There is only one person you can turn your sorrows and hardships to and that is God.

As Hebrews 11:1 states "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."

Today was the day of my nephew's baptism. Tommy and I were honored to be asked to be his Godparents. Today was so special for my family to see Collier and the community that surrounds him. I can't wait to see what God has in store for his life and I feel lucky to be a part of it. He has no idea how loved he is and how much we are so grateful for him. In such a short amount of time he has every member of my family wrapped around his little finger. My sister and brother-in-law are also members of Peachtree Presbyterian so the 8:45 Summit Service is when Collier got baptized. Marnie Crumpler did the baptisms of the three little boys this morning (one of which is a son of another couple in my sisters bible study. Pretty awesome the boys got baptized together). My whole family (minus Claire who is studying abroad in Italy) and Brett's family from Ohio were all in attendance to experience this beautiful occasion for Collier James. The sermon was fantastic and the worship music was beautiful. Joe Skillen really knows how to hit home on a Sunday morning.

After church we all went to the Willi's for lunch! Mom made the appetizers, Nana made the dessert, Bonnie and Brett made the main meal, and I organized the desserts. I chose to let those that are way more talented than me handle the desserts! I got cookies made by a local girl starting up her business called PastryShells. My mom also had the bright idea with my brother coming from Athens to order my sister's favorite Caramel Cake from Cecelia's (who made both of our wedding cakes. They make all the cakes for Last Resort in Athens too). We had a great gathering with both families. Always nice to have everyone together.

(Should have moved the broken one before taking the picture. Oops!)

Lastly, here is a picture of the gift I gave Collier. We were given this by some friends for our Anniversary and I thought it would be perfect to give Collier to start his ornament collection. This is the main sanctuary at Peachtree Presbyterian. This easy shop has molds of the major churches in Atlanta. She only makes 2000 of each mold.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

Just what I needed today

Now that it's sweet summertime I have more flexibility in my schedule. A friend of mine asked if I wanted to join her on Tuesday mornings for a bible study series through our church this summer and I have been wanting to do a study for awhile now. It just came at the right time and it's about none other than how to say no/yes in the right times. The book states "It's easy to think that our daily yes and no decisions aren't all that important, but over time, they can add up: The decisions we make dictate the schedules we keep; the schedules we keep determine the life we live; the life we live determines how we spend our soul- and how we spend our soul matters." This was profound to me.

As you can tell from my blog, I manage to keep us very busy and a lot of the time sometimes over committed. The season of life that we are in with many of our friends getting married lends us to having events constantly. Sometimes it is OK to say no but I have a really hard time with that. I'm not just referring to wedding events but to every other invitation that comes our way. I knew this series would be good for me to hear. Today was our first session and it was great! There was a room full of probably close to 50 women who are probably struggling with similar things to me whether it's saying "no" to playdates, showers, dinners, etc. Not just because you don't want to go but because as someone said in the session today "if you don't leave any time in your schedule you won't be able to see God working and he doesn't have a chance to speak to you." This spoke volumes to me. I seem to schedule up our nights and our weekends to a point where we don't even have time to spend just the two of us. It's a double-edged sword. I love to be social to see our friends and family but I also crave down time. I need to make this more of a priority in my life so that I can see what life unfolds in the slow times too.

Not only was the session today what I needed to hear but I'm also reading "Carry on, Warrior" by Glennon Melton. She is very candid about her life experiences and the struggles she has gone through. The part of the book today I read through really resonated with me about hope. I actually finished the book today. Both readings and hearing from the women at church and reading Glennon's stories I felt rejuvenated and hopeful that I too have some growing to do with God this summer. This summer is fairly calm considering how the past few months have been for us and I look forward to learning more through the sessions to come. It was just what I needed today.
